i have a 2003 xc90 t6, since day one, there is very annoying noise coming from the front pillars (both left and right), i finally sourced it out that it was due to the sealbelt that is pressing against the plastic casing of the pillar, it needs a bit of force to overcome the friction to move, that is if my body hardly moves, the force induced from the body movement must overcome the friction between the belt and the plastic before the seat belt would unwind and yet keeping the tension, the noise is very soft, but annoying. the dealer(s) said that is the way the design is and cant do much about it. i am irritated by this, for a car of this caliber to compete with other european made vehicles, it offers such annoying noise is just bothering me to death. can anyone suggest a solution to overcoming such noise please?

Well, you are NOT nuts--I have the same thing. I am considering some way to reduce friction at that point. I am tall, and have the seat at the highest setting. I agree that this is annoying. Overall, I am very happy with the car, but I wish it were a touch more toward Mercedes in the interior quality arena. Temp solution? Turn up the stereo....

It can drive you nuts.

I have endless issues with the XC90. I would return it tomorrow.

Somehow the materials (nylon seatbelt and plastic casing) "dislike" each other  I simply put piece of tape between casing and seatbelt. So far the trick has been working well.

:460:
I have the same problem, , from the day I purchased the car new new , XC90 ,late 2006 model, now at 30000km and my Volvo dealer service tech said it is considered to be normal, also said I could go to the hard shop and purchase a bottle of alcohol and apply it the plastic sleeve on the door pillar to smooth it …. “ Volvo or it “ O NO “

the symptom ......

Seat Belt - The driver side Safety Seat Belt is annoyingly noisy for the driver of the car. ( all other safety belts are OK)

When wearing the drivers side safety belt and while driving the safety belt is constantly making a clicking type noise.
Looks like the problem might be caused by the belt rubbing against the mouth plastic piece of the side panel or might be the whole belt mechanism.

Quality of component !!!!!!
Quality control - !!!!
