Hi

When the lights turned green last night, my 3 year old S60 simply refused to move. Just like that it just refused to budge. Revved the engine up to around 5000 before it finally managed to creep out of the junction. Eventuallly even the high revs would not coax any propusion. I then had the car towed back to a service station nearby. The mechanic who attended to the car the next morning had no problem with the car at all. He took the car out for a test drive - and it drove beautifully. Suggested that it was problably an intermittent electronic problem which should be referred to the Volvo agent.

I then drove the car off - and guess what - the same problem recurred - car refused to move - except very slowly for a short distance at high revs. The dashboard computer indicated a Transmission Problem that had to be attended to urgently. Had it towed back to the Volvo agent this time. The volvo technician (without checking) suggested that it could be a gear box problem - I don't see how this could be a mechanical problem if it happens intermittently.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem.

I am fast losing faith in Volvo. HELP :anjavascript:emoticon('')

Sounds like a transmission problem to me as well. They will be fine cold and act up when they get hot. They start slipping and don't want to move. Most likely it will need a new transmission.

Thanks a lot tech.

Will let you know what the final diagnosis is tomorrow when they have finished the checking.

Desperately hoping that it is not going to end up as an expensive gear box replacement !

Sorry to say but will probably be pretty expensive.
Here in the U.S. it is like $2000.00 or a little more.

Hi Thana,

I had the same problem as yours for my 2003 S60T5 Turbo. Once I got it serviced at Federal Auto workshop, but the problem still persist sometimes. They got the throttle switch changed but it doesnt help. What I normally did when the car stalled was that, I pulled to the road side, off the engine and crank again. Press the throttle paddle, then see the RPM is active fast, then its OK. The car is back to normal. That is my way of recuperating it. I even sometimes did that also at the RED traffic light.

I think there is a slack in volvo DRIVE BY WIRE SYSTEM. When it loose, the car :( lost power, cant even move...when I drive hard through bumpy roads, it happened again.

I think Volvo people should have a thorogh study on this and probably made a RECALL on S60s and the part replaced.

Pity it. I like driving my S60 very much, but once this problem crops up, I feel like exchanging my car with KANCIL (malaysian small car)..
