My 1988 240 has recently been having brake trouble, I have to depress the brakes almost completely to slow the car and, at times, I find myself with the pedal to the floor with no action from the brakes.

It recently got very bad right after I filled up on gas, could this mean anything?

Any help is appreciated.

If it's the original master cylinder that's a likely suspect. Does the brake warning light come on when you apply the brakes?

It is most likely your master cylinder. Before you jump to buy a new one, remove the master cylinder and there will be an adjustable acorn nut on the end of the booster pushrod. This tends to work itself in over time and if it is the original this is most likely your problem. Do not adjust too much. You will want to leave a gap betwwen the pushrod and the master cylinder concave opening. I suggest turning a half a turn and checking each time. Hope this helps. Good luck.
