Hey Guys,

Am new here so ''hey'' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/57.gif) to everybody.

Got a small problem over here. I just bought this really nice 440 1.8 from 1995. Problem is that the previous owner blown the speakers to pieces. I want to install a new stereo but how to? These are my questions.

1/ An Alpine stereo basic model, is it better than for example a Pioneer? (This is what I heard)

2/ How can you replace the speakers in your front doors. I can't seem to find a way to get them out, or get new one's in. You have to take of the panel, but a can't figure out how?

3/ Any other hints and tips, how to get myself a nice sound.

Thanks already for your reactions. Really like all the help.

Thanx guys!!!!

Grtz

Martijn

the panel is just a push fit, once you take off the handle plate (screw in the middle under the handle) and the holder (3 screws underneath) and the winder (there is a spring clip that goes in a groove on the shaft, its a bugger, but if you have electric windows thats not a problem, then just get a flat wide blade screwdriver and gently lever the pins out - they are plastic clips.

Hey,

I am also new here!

To replace the speaker you just need to remove the iron cover (grille). This is clicked on with plastic clips, so be careful. After removing it, with a small screwdriver, just unscrew the speaker (4 screws) and it is out.
I think that in the basic models the alpine is better, but higher series of Pioneer are great!!

Good luck!!

An Alpine is not better then a Pioneer in terms of sound quality, however I do believe that Alpine has the upper hand in Ipod control. Personally I would go with the Pioneer stereo mainly because I have an older one with no issues, so thus high quality, and I just like the way they look. Whichever one you decide to get you will be satisfied with, though. Also, if you want to be able to do the install yourself, I would recommend ordering from crutchfield. In addition to the product you buy from them, they send you everything you need to install it, and detailed instructions on how to install it at no cost.
