Hi

I have a 240 which has begun stalling when cold in low gears, the problem has gotten worse and now it stalls even in 3rd gear in traffic. My mechanic cannot find the problem and has decided to try a mass air flow meter. This is working out to be more expensive than the car and he is not sure if it will solve the problem. Is this a common problem and is there a cure??

Thank you

What year is the car? In 89 and beyond, the diagnostic system most of the time flashes a code for a bad AMM.

Also with the battery disconnected, you can unplug it, and see if it will run better that way (although still rough) - suggesting the AMM being the problem.
