I want to change the fuel filter(outside the gas tank). Do I need to jack up the car to do it? I looked around the rear driver side tire and I can not find it. If I do need to jack it up, is it safe to do so since all I will be doing is changing the tire?

Thanks,
-Dman

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) I suppose if your small enough to crawl under your car, then you can possible change the fuel filter..??(I really doubt it)., I do not understand your remarks concerning your spare tire and jack..?? If your planning to jack the car up (like say your changing a tire) and using that method to get under the car to locate and change the fuel filter., lets just hope you have lots of life insurance....NEVER get under a vehicle to do whatever using only the spare tire jack...You need a ramp or jack stands and then block at least one of the remaining wheels that are on the ground....
Once this is done, there is a recommended procedure to removing and installing a new fuel filter....I just changed the one today on my 01 Chevy Suburban driving up on ramps then blocking the rear wheels...The book explains how you must bleed the fuel system to eliminate the pressure within...What I do is just remove the gas cap, this seems to work.
Very little gas dripped out from the inlet/outlet lines...Takes all of 15 minutes with the right tools...Good luck...
