My son (with my wife in the passenger seat) hit a curb at about 25MPH and it tore up the right front wheel pretty good. The obvious damage is that the wheel is broken and I can see that the front lower control arm is broken where it connects to the subframe. I can also see where the brace that ties back diagonally into the frame is also damaged. I'm not sure what that piece is called, but it's just a tubular piece about 1/2" diameter and probably a foot and a half long. The point where it bolts up under the car to the frame at the back appears to have pulled the bolt out about 1/4". I guess my first question has to be if that connection point for that diagonal rod is a replaceable bushing or if it tore some threads right out of the frame. Also in a typical situation like this what would normally be expected to have to be replaced? Would I expect to have to replace the entire subframe? The vehicle is almost drivable, but the tire is now rubbing against the back inner fenderwell a little. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif)

Pictures of damaged components is always helpful, but you use the term brace. Convertible models were fitted with both front and rear additional chassis braces. This is a link to some after market braces, but they use the same mounting points as the factory ones.

Inner fender well liner is plastic, visually inspect why it is so close to the tire.

You could also be describing the front swaybar that is connected to the endlinks(goes to the other side of vehicle). The bar and the bushings are replaceable providing the mounting points are in good condition. Either way good luck on the repairs or post some pictures for a more definitive answer.

I have since learned that my subframe is indeed bent at the point where the control arm mounts to the frame. It is pushed in about 1" towards the engine. I can find a replacement subframe from a wrecking yard, but I want to make sure that this is a manageable replacement project before I tear into it. Does anyone have any idea how difficult, or time consuming, it is to remove and replace the subframe? Also is there anything else that I should be highly suspect about the possibility of damage during the accident with the curb? I have full coverage and could submit it to my insurance but I'd pay through the nose, especially when it was my 16 year old son who was driving. I'm thinking I'm better off just repairing it and leaving the insurance out of it, BUT if I do try repairing it and learn that there was more to it, or it's too difficult, then I'm on my own and there's no real way to bring in the insurance company at that point to fix it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Right now my only costs expected are a couple rebuilt double spoke wheels, a new subframe, and a new lower control arm which should all add up to a little under $1000.
