This is at least the 4th time I've had this code come up. It always happens in the middle of a long drive - i.e., leave home, drive a few hours, stop to get something to eat, turn the car back on and now the CEL light is on. I've seen a lot of posts say that this code could be caused by improper gasket seal on the gas cap, so I flipped the O ring and it looked good, and now put it on as tight as possible, and I'm still getting this code. I have it reset by Autozone each time and it stays off for months, until I do another long drive. I checked with the dealer and they said there are no software updates available for my car and no problems they could find. So what's going on here? Any suggestions?

Nick

I get it whenever I run the tank dead empty, then fill up.

I took the cheeseball route, and bought a cheapo code reader just to shut that stupid light up.

If that is what the code is, it's been my experience that the CEL goes off as soon as the cap is put on right. Maybe the gas cap itself actually is bad and has a leak?

Yet again on a trip to the Outer Banks, P2407 lights up the CEL to brighten my day. I had the Auto Zone guys reset it for me, and it usually stays off until next time I go on a long trip.

Are there specific tests the dealer can run to figure out exactly which component is causing this repeated problem? Likely culprits? Likely $$$$ outlay?

Since it doesn't seem to affect the performance I'll probably just let it go, but I do have some more serious problems with this car so when I see the CEL come on 4 hours away from home, it is a little concerning!
