I have a 72 Volvo p1800e. Actually I have two. : ) I am trying to put an ultra hottie set of wheels on the car. The car has been modified (I didnt do it) but it is stock height.

The wheels I want are a 17"x8" and the tire the TIRE Rack is recommending is a 225/45r/17. The offset is 38mm. Overall height of the wheel tire combination would be 25 inches

Does anyone know if this will fit without rubbing or other problems?

If you dont think it will fit, is there a largest tire width/wheels size/tire size/offset combination that some knows will fit??

Certainly someone has walked down this ugly ugle path before. : ) JON

From what I understand, the stock tire height was about 25". I don't think that the height will be a problem, but I do think that you will have a problem with them rubbing due to the width you are going with. Going from a 5.5" or a 6" stock wheel width to an 8" width is one concern while going from a 165 stock tire width to a 225 tire width is my other concern.

I have a 72ES with 240 Turbo rims (Virgos), the previous owner installed them along with a pair of 215s on the rear and a pair of 205s on the fronts. I don't have problems with the 205s rubbing. When the weather gets warmer, I might swap the rear tires to the front of the car, just so I can see (hear) if the 215's will cause rubbing (before I buy a new set of tires for the car).

We were just talking about tire sizes for 1800s on another forum. I posted this link there that lets you plug in any tire size you want and will give you similar (diameter) sized tires. It also goes as far as to tell you how big of a difference the new sized tires will make when your speedo shows you doing 50MPH and 1,000 Miles. The main problem is that you need to know the original tire size to get an idea of what tires have a close diameter. I believe that the original tire size for your car was 165 SR 15. Which isn't exactly the format that is used nowdays. There is a bit of difference in opinions as to what size the height was but basically, all agree it is close to 80. That would make your stock tire about a 165/80/R15. Goodluck and please post back with what you decided on. I have been considering a bigger rim for my 1800, and I think that I will take the 16" Turbo rims off of my Wifes 960Wagon and try them on my 1800 this Summer.

Here is the link I am talking about:

Yes, but with what size tires?

All Rear Wheel Drive Volvos have the same bolt pattern (5x108 IIRC). The FWD Volvos have
the same pattern, but will need a adapter to fix the offset difference.

So, Which rims / tires did you use?
I thought you were getting a new set of rims/tires from Tirerack.com?

I'd love to see some pictures! It would be great to know what tire / rim sizes others have
used without having any clearance issues.
