I have a 2003 s40 and the gear shift selector does not light up when i turn on the headlights. I feel pretty sure a new bulb would fix this but how do I get to the bulb to replace it.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks jamin

I had the same problem, it's not really easy to get to. A couple of the plastic clips on mine were broken, so it was easy to pull the area apart. There are some clips under the grip mat under the console, if you use those to take the whole panel out you can get to it. Not sure how tight it's supposed to be in there, but mine just lifts out if I wiggle it. Its a really small light, you have to special order it. Ipdusa.com has it for like 1.00 but you might as well get a couple other things from them because standard shipping is 7-10 dollars through them. If you have a near by Volvo dealer they should have it.

I recently had the same problem with this light being burned out, and it seems that IPD no longer sells these.

After a lot of research, I found the correct replacement from Digikey for about $5.62 shipped.

I thought I would post this information to save others from going through the same trouble.

The bulb is manufactured by C&K Components, and their part number for it is 1.90120.0120000.

Digikey's part number is CKN9243-ND.

This link should take you to it: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch....120.012%2F0000

It looks identical to the original, and fit and works perfectly.
