My 2001 S60 has had recent error messages with the car alarm system, and I will be getting it checked out, but in the mean time, the alarm is going off at all hours. Is there a way to turn off the alarm system until I drop it off to get fixed? Disable it perhaps? Thanks for your help in advance.

The only thing I can think of that might help is to turn off the interior sensors.

They would be about the only thing that you have any control over?

If you press the switch whilst the the ignition key is in the accesory position (position 1 or 2 I think) then remove the key it should indicate that it is in 'reduced guard' or something similar)
At least if you turn off the interior sensors and your alarm still goes off you can at least rule them out as the problem.

If that doesn't solve the problem then I'd guess the dealer would be your only option (apart from leaving it unlocked that is)

Mike, I don't suppose you got to the bottom of your alarm problem did you?

Mine is going off like crazy these days, not sure what the problem is but I did discover that if you lock the car using the key rather than the remote - the alarm isn't switched on.

At the moment the only thing I can think of is that the battery on it's last legs.

You could try pulling the fuse for the siren. It should be located in the fuse box on the diver side dashboard. If the siren stops going off at random, that would indicate a failure of the siren's internal backup battery.

I was having the same issues with the alarm going off all the time, I was told to try and take the battery cables off in the trunk and leave it disconnected for about 30 minutes. It worked for me. I still have the get alarm serviced message, but it has not been going off. Hope this helps. I have a 2002 s60.
