Now, the gray relay is the manifold absolute pressure sensor. It's got the correct plug on it. This mounts underside of the pull off fan shroud itself, to the right [facing] of the cooling fan relay combo.

Actually, i believe the grey-coloured relay is the fuel-injector relay. Play on the wires to feel a 'click' if you have trouble starting. This should come under 'Fuel Delivery' check.

As for the 850 transmissions, i further believe that the tranny is based on the model number. Read the pdf that woods gave. At the identification plate, the most important is number 1 (Transaxle Model). Then number 2 (Trnasaxle Part number). If you have the option, make sure number 3 fits, tho some mechanic will tell you to avoid earlier versions.

If it's definitely engine oil then it's probably just an oil leak from the oil drain plug, oil filter, dipstick tube, oil filler cap seal, oil line/connection at the turbo, oil pan, main seal, cam seal or ?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Look directly up from the oil spot and around the area for a hint.

Hey Wizzy, do you have a Haynes manual for your Volvo? I'm going to donate mine to a good cause, to someone here on the Forums. I sold my Volvo and would like to pass along my Haynes manual.

I just hope the USPS postal inspectors aren't monitoring this site, that's surely unapproved use of Priority mail boxes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)

Yep, it looks like you've got an oil leak. I would not suspect anything to do with your head gasket. It's hard to tell from here where it's leaking from so you'll need to get under there and find the source[s].

Yes, like beach said, it just confirms the leak. The source? You'll still need to go under and check.

Good luck.

That looks like the drip pattern of a leaking rear main seal.
