I've just brought a 1999 volvo s40 T4.

When I lock the car with the remote, the led on the dash remains on permanently. However if I lock it with the key it flashes as it says it should do in the manual. I've checked and when the car is locked with the remote the car is deadlocked.

Any ideas?

You might have to have codes pulled and see if there is any.
There might be a problem with the alarm module.

Thanks very much, I will get the car booked into a Main Volvo Dealer for them to have a look at it. Would you mind just clarifying what you means about getting the alarm codes pulled?

Cheers for your help :)

There is a computer that monitors the alarm system and if there is a fault it will store codes in the system.
That sounds weird what is happening.I have never seen that before.
I think there might be a fault in the drivers door lock motor assembly. It might be stuck in a position unless you use the key to lock it.
There is micro switches in the lock assembly. One might be sticking or something like that and when you use the key it forces it to work.
