I've just bought 96 460 SE 2.0 and noticed that speedometer's needle is shaking, but still is working quite fine but the shaking is anoying me. The speedo is electronical - what can be the problem?

could be an intermittent signal or a dodgy drive gear?

sounds like a loose connection. or, you could be super-duper, multi-sonic speed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif) broke the speed of sound yet? have you done any electrical work? new stereo, etc? if so, check your connections, you might have spliced into something.

Its worth checking the connector on the ECU, disconnect it and take the case off the connector, and check the wires on the back, the speedo signal is processed via the ECU (I remember)and a bad connection on that connector can display as a lot of different problems.

Sounds to me like the speedo sensor is playing up, have a look at the 480 europe site for a guide on where it is, i just hope you havent got an auto or even worse a turbo auto (like me) as it's impossible to get to, just like the starter motor! sensor might be loose or the sensor is dirty/dying. other one could be the connectors for the dash are loose, the dasboards in 400 series cars are notorius for playing up, especialy the infocenter versions!
