I have a 1987 740 and the crank sunroof wont open it feels like the gear is rusted but im not sure any ideas on how to fix it

One of the cables might be out of adjustment.
You can remove the handle and make sure the handle is not frozen.Then you can check the cables and then try to reinstall the handle.
