Yesterday when i was driving home i noticed that my car was sounding loader than normal. the only way i can describe it is that like when you are using a gas powered weed wacker and when you give it gas it gets really loud and when you are just idling its still loud just not as loud, when i step on the break there is no noise, when i got out of the car to listen to the noise it sounded like it was coming from the front of the car. any help from anyone would be great

thanks tracy

Your description sounds like major engine damage. How long is it since you have checked the oil and water?

Did any warning instrument panel warning lights come on while these noises were occurring?

You really need to have your vehicle transported (don't drive it) to a garage to have it assessed before any further damage is done to the engine.

Unfortunately, I think you may have already sustained major engine damage - I hope I'm wrong.

Good luck!

i change my oil every 3,000 miles and is due in about 500 miles, the check engine light has not come on, and my rpms have not change, so i don't know what could have happened.

My question had nothing to do about how often you change the engine oil - My question was "How long is it since you checked the and water?"

You are describing the classic symptoms of big-end bearing damage/failure (the bearing that encircle the crankshaft and allow the connecting rod to move independent of the crankshaft).

It doesn't require an engine to run for very long without oil before these pack-up.

explain the sound without use of sounds like..... is it ticking real loud? maby sqealing, or does it sound like metal rubbing metal, Engine damage will tell the tale, and a steady RPM is not one of them, What oil are you using, the wieght, type, synthetic or none? Mine started a horrific tick, like a pop-pop-pop-pop, say that fast, yea thats it. Heavier oil stopped that. And my motor is fairly new.
give us that info
goodluck

+1 to both of those members. even though you have 500 miles to go, do you check the level before you go out? you might be low on oil and not know about it. but in lieu of hearing the sound, or you describing it, get out of the car, open hood and listen to where the sound is coming from. first check the oil and water level before you undertake this. as you check the oil, pull the dipstick and run your fingers through the oil. does it feel like there is metal filings in there? if so, tow your car to a mech. if the oil is clean, open the catch bottle where the extra coolant flows, is there fluid in there? open the radiator, is there fluid in there? i know this sounds stupid, but sometimes we need to look at the simple instead of just standing there swearing at the car, good luck and keep us posted
