1993 GLS with more than 100K miles, mechanic cannot find anything wrong, but the car will just stop while driving it. It is really unpredictable and sometimes takes a while to restart once it does this (can be very dicy especially when turing left through an intersection). Mechanic suspects a fuel pump, but hesitates just to replace it and find out that it doesn't fix it. anyone had this kind of problem?

This is a pretty common issue. Take a look at the thread in the "sticky" section

you may need a pump, and a tank cleaning along with a fuel system cleaning, sounds like your picking up trash or excess moisture.
good luck!

+1. you know, even though this doesn't pertain to your post, but it is funny. i had rebuilt the engine on my bobber. i really took my time, etc etc. i filled up the tank and headed down the road. it's a two gallon tank, should last about 90-100 miles, depends on how i lean on it. so at about 78 in, i switch over to the reserve tank and the bike stops dead. i switch back and i can ride along, now i've hit 85 miles, and i hit the reserve and the bike dies again. anyway, i ride until i literaly run out of gas and i am sitting out on the side of the long island expressway without my phone because it was to be a short ride. another biker pulls up and we start trouble shooting and lo and behold when i installed the petcock and the filter, i forgot to remove the plastic that it was wrapped in. :haha: at least the other rider didn't laugh at me. well, not to my face anyway. it might be a bad batch of gas. or try this simple trick, when it stalls again, open the hood and open the fuse panel. find the big fuel relay under the fuse tray. tap it with a screwdriver, your knuckles, whatever, if it starts, then replace the relay. if you get in the car and you switch the key to pos II, when all the lights come on-but not the engine, do you hear the fuel pump, if not then it's the pump. good luck and keep us posted.

Anyone who forgets to take their pet 'rooster' out of plastic deserves to have problems!

Hi Hollyh,
I had a similar problem, occasionally whilst driving the engine would just die. Also when I parked the car it just wouldn't start until I had let it stand for a period of time usually 1/2 and hour

I found the answer on this forum. I needed to replaced the Fuel Pump Relay
See image below(I think that they come in different colours, the original I think was all green)

Hope this helps

Regards

Sean

The PINK one is the newer version. If you have the green one still, just replace it. Dont have to wait for problems to surface.

Thanks.
