I have a 1987 240 and was just wondering where the MAF sensor is located. The car is idling rough and was to see if this is the problem.

Do a search for AMM(air mass meter) to find out everything you will ever want to know about the MAF sensor. They are the same thing. It is located halfway between the air filter, and the throttle body.

Rough idle could also be due to a dirty throttle body.

A garage replaced all my belts and for a week it was running rough.I checked under the hood and noticed they did not re clamp the spot between the filter and air mass meter.I reclamped with an extra I had .The problem went away but it still doesn't idle like it used to.I think dirt got in there when the air mass meter was exposed,I have also never cleaned the throttle body. How long does it take for a weekend mechanic to clean a throttle body? :liebe011:

3/4 to 1 hr-if meticulus. 1/2 hr is not fussy-but depends on how much dirt and your cleaner. remember to adjust the throttle plate stop so that the plate closes the whole passage, the microswitch and the linkage, which should have minimal play-then adjust the cable for min slack. Adjust idle bypass screw according to the manual.
