Hi, im getting a volvo 240 next month, and was just wondering if theres a chance a t5 2.3 t5 or 2.5R engine would fit straight in( with little mod)?? or is the 2.3 standard engine able to produce more power? any information or links to other post would be great, thanks

B230F==72kw & 140fnm as I recall. the later ones have thinner conrods, The overall mass 1360kg
requires a decent stroke on the motor to get the torque-even the V's 84mm is a bit short IMO. The 96mm pistons are obscenely oversized. The motor comes with a variety of heads, pistons and cams for differing fuels and performance and a turbo version. Do NOT bolt a turbo onto a stock B230F-it needs a lot of mods to make it workable for Turbo-use the proper turbo version-it's cheaper in the long run! They are the same block casting and crank, but that's abt all. Rechipping doesn't do a lot, a turbo conversion is biggest bang for a reasonably large buck. Other motors-remember to get the torque & the power-or you're wasting you're money. A V was raced in Oz a few years ago-the articles make interesting reading.

I've said it before : a fast Volvo is an oxymoron.

Take a look at this:

http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Volvo_200_V-8.html

Might actually be easier considering Volvo's 5 cylinder engines are all set up to be transverse mount.

However, none of these are cheap!

Yeah, "V8 swap" came to mind when I saw this thread title. I've also seen LS1 swaps instead of the more common earlier smallblocks. One of the factory turbo motors would be my first choice if I were building something with less effort and a lower budget.

How do you figure this out?

The T5 station wagon was the fastest production made station wagon in the world when it came out.

I guess I'm just ignorant then, sorry. My experience is limited, after all. There are sweeping generalizations and trueisms, and there are the exceptions, I guess. I appologise to the offended.

Nobody is offended.

I didn't know myself until I became a Volvo owner a few years back (and I bet there are many people - lot's of Volvo owners included - who are unaware Volvo produced this road rocket).

:haha: :haha:

why to change hole engine?( if isnt about racing cars) if you want more power go make it to turbo or increase power with new exhaust, sharper camshaft, bigger bore and stroke. In here Finland my friend makes cylinder head of aluminium, i mean hole cylinder head, not improwing factorys one. he got race car Ford escort -96 which has volvos 3L engine and its improwed engine with his cylinder heads, and ther car has 330hp and 370Nm. here is power papers of it http://www.poikkimakiracing.fi/kuvat/tehokayra.jpg

A T5 lump will be a pain to fit.
Would be easier fitting a 740 turbo engine.

Stu.
