Hey guys,

I have a 1996 850 GLT and I'm having some headlight problems. My right low beam only works intermittently. Sometimes when I turn my car on the headlight will come on, other times I'll get my light out indicator. I've even had the light out when I started the car and then in the middle of driving it, it just randomly clicks on. I have tried replacing bulbs but to know avail. I have also had the wiring for the headlight replaced. I heard that it's not uncommon for the 850's but not sure. Just wanted to know if anyone has or has had this problem and any possible fixes. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like your car might have an intermittent loose connection somewhere - and these faults are usually hard to find.

The only thing I can suggest is the next time it goes faulty, get a good quality 12v tester and methodically work back along the supply circuit away from the headlight until you come across the point where the the supply wire is active. It will not be an easy job and you will need the appropriate wiring diagram(s) for your vehicle and be prepared to break into connectors etc.

An awkward job that will test your patience - but it can be done.

Good luck!

i had a problem like this with my blinker, the bulb wasn't touching the inside of the socket. if you take the bulb out, there should be a strip of metal, turn off your car and pull it out a little bit with a pliers, so the bulb will get a better connection. try it, let me know how it goes.

It happened once to me, and i replaced the bulb THREE times in ONE day. Funny thing was that they werent burnt. But that was the clue-giver actually. I did as mentioned above, dont remember WHAT exactly though, but am 100% sure i used pliers on the LOCKING -wire/strip and never had a problem since.

Try this, remove the plastic rear cover and try to wiggle the metal parts that is supposed to 'hold' or act as current conductor to the bulb. If the parts can move freely, then use that long-nose plier to crimp it down to shape, bearing in mind it original purpose (meaning dont straighten a bent metal wire). :haha:

I hope you understand what i am getting that.

And OH, watch your head and your EYES (!) while you bend your head down to see how the locking mechanism works. Almost poked myself in the eye, with the headlight angle adjuster when i did that.

:haha:
