Hi Guys,

Im thinking of buying a 2003 volvo S40 with 65000 miles on the clock. But im hearing that the s40 needs alot of maintenance especially compared to volkswagons(which I normally drive) or toyotas.

Can ye tell me after how many miles did ye change break pads. Or if you havent yet had to change them, how many miles have you driven in the car.

Has a kncoking sound appeared after roughly 40,000 miles. If not How many miles have you up on your S40?

Any other issues that you think are linked to this post, id be happy to hear them. This particular S40 looks great. But I coudnt justify it if it needs to be taken to he garage alot. I only ever had to go to the garage once with my volkswagon. And had to change the break pads another time. And thats after doing over 80,000 miles. And it is still going very strong

Alan

The S40 blows VWs out of the water for reliability. Warrantydirects reliability survey which is based on claims from their customers gave the S40 15 place http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/tophundr...128339010848601. The nearest Volkswagen was the golf in 36th place. As for brake pads and other parts only the T4s are extra heavy compared to normal on them but that because you use the brakes alot more when having that much fun.
