When I check my DTC codes with my reader I get P0410 Secondary Air Injection System. While the Check Engine Light (CEL) is on the Fuel System is running in open loop and things look fine, but when I erase the DTC, turning the CEL off the fuel system then goes into closed loop and I get a "fault with at least one oxygen sensor". There are two oxygen sensors (pre and post cat) and I just replaced both of them with $100 "Walker" Oxygen Sensors. I have also tested and found to be working my Air Pump, Relay, and SAS Valve(Air Pump Check Valve). I don't think that a ground signal is ever sent to the air pump to turn it on during normal operation, but I can ground the relay and turn the pump on by applying a ground wire myself. I can't figure it out and it's very frustrating, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

You appear to have a fair knowledge of computer controlled engine management systems so I won't avance any of my theories except to say - I've heard replacing the oxygen sensors in the cat. with non-standard sensors can end up being a real PITA.

Dawgfather,

What was the original complain with the old O2 sensor? You may want to know that the old O2 sensor CAN be cleaned (i've cleaned mine a coupled of time already) using petrol. Just soak them in a petrol-safe contained and stir the container a bit. Leave so that the petrol could work its way to the sensor heads and inner parts to loosen the carbon buildups.

+1 on both posts. as to generic O2 sensors, i would steer clear of them. had trouble with some generics years ago on a different car (pontiac) and those weren't as sophisticated as the volvo, and it caused me weeks of hair pulling, and i had a loooot of hair them
