Just purchased a 2002 C70 that has some problems. When I shift into Drive I hear and feel a substantial clunk... After inspecting the car, noticed the top motor mount is totally shot... all the rubber is out of the big center hole...

When shifting into drive, the engine really moves a lot... would this cause the clunk... have ordered a new mount.

Thanks

I would inspect your transmission torque mount(link). Looks like this http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/prod...category_id/110
Probably the most likely culprit for your clunk.

Hi,
Thanks for your comment... will check out the mount. One more question if I may... Have no history on the car... How can I check to see if the timing belt has been changed...

Thanks

Short of taking the timing belt cover off and inspecting to see if a new belt is on is the only idea that comes to mind. If you bought it used where did you buy the car. Do a little detective work and call the local Volvo dealerships where your car came from with your VIN. Maybe they worked on that specific vehicle and have a record. Perhaps your owner's manual in the maintenance section.

Replaced the upped motor mount (round on top of engine) and the lower torque mound... Still get the clunk... When I put the car in drive, it takes a second to engage, then a jerk...

Replced the Timing Belt, Tensioner, Water Pump and the roller thing... piece of cake. I can't understand why the dealer wants over $1000 for the job.

Thanks

I have the EXACT same problem with my 2001 C70, does the same thing from drive to reverse...and NOW in the lower gears when driving in stop-and-go traffic! PLEASE. I beg the experts on this forum for some advice. It purrs like a kitten when driving at higher speeds, and I'm trying to avoid a new tranny. Here's what I have done. Replaced timing belt about 15,000 miles ago. Changed transmission fluid. Will have to check with my mechanic, but don't think I changed the filter (unless that happens when they do a transmission fluid change). Sounds like XK150 did more repairs than me, and still has the same trouble. Looking for advice.

SAME problem here..hard shift when put in drive everything else is fine. When Iasked the dealership I was told it could be one of a couple things.. the engine mount ( replaced.. didnt fix the problem) .. software problem, or transmission needs to be serviced, going to take it back to the dealer to have a closer look.
