i know you guys probably dont like these kind of posts but i've checked every topic i could first and googled it and stuff and i still can't figure this out.

i just tried to go to work and my engine wouldn't start. it doesn't cranks at all. it was fine before this. my dad started the car and moved it out of the way a couple hours ago and it was fine. i've been driving it every day and the engine starts right up every time.

things i've checked:

battery - its fine. usually when its kinda dead it cranks for a little bit then stops. but i have it on the charger and all the lights and electronics work with no problems so it can't be the battery.

fuses - i checked all of them and they are fine.\

OBD2 - this probably doesn't matter but i checked that and there are no codes.

gears - sometimes the gear doesn't pop into park all the way and the car wont crank. but it did this time. and i checked it in N just to make sure and still nothing.

i have enought oil, water... everything is fine. i'm not sure what else to check.

I know on a lot of cars if the starter is going bad it starts to seize up. Take a hammer or a wrench and give it a couple of good taps. If it is the starter and it is frozen, a lot of times this will loosen it up. Other than that, I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

go to the junkyard and get a fuel relay from another 850, try that. or, if it happens to you again, open hood, open fuse panel and take panel off, underneath is the fuel relay, big pinkish/red usually with a number 122 on it. tap that with a screwdriver since a hammer is on the big side, if it starts, it's the relay. or, turn key to pos I and listen for the fuel pump, if it doesn't whir, then it's the relay. good luck. oh, and jks2's suggestion is good also, go from easy to harder and see if either of these works.

I suspect the starter may have gone faulty - an auto electrician could soon establish if this is the problem.

Failing that it might be the PNP switch on the auto transmission playing up.

Move the selector lever rapidly about 10 times up and down the full length of the selector gate then try and start the car. Sometimes these switches get gunk in them and this making them a little unpredictable.

Good luck!
