I need a new lens cover for my daughters 1988 240GL - Drivers Side. Housing is ok and bulbs work fine, just need the lens. Various Ebay ads indicate that replacement lenses are not OEM.....they are, however, about 50% less in cost. Is this a "you get what you pay for" situation, or is the Ebay route a good alternative to local dealer? Again, local dealer is $29 + tax and Ebay is around $9.75 with shipping of $5, so around $15.

New to the forum....thanks for your insight!

welcome and congrats on your 240. try fcpgroton.com. theirs are factory replacements and are much cheaper than dealer prices. as for ebay, it's always buyer beware. you get what you pay for. it used to be a lot better than it has become. too many ripoff artists out there.

Thanks GreekMason....great suggestion. With shipping cost, fcpgroton.com was only a few dollars less, so I may support my local dealer. I did note, however, that other parts were quite a bit less expensive, so your suggestion is greatly appreciated.

I just bought the 15 dollar e-bay lens, and was impressed with the way it looked coming out of the box. It looked great. Then I tried to fit it to the car...............................

Go with the volvo one. Mine looks fine on the car, however I know it's not making a good seal.

Sorry to hear about your experience Sargesvs. I went to my local dealer who charged me $23.71 for the lens. Went on perfectly and the time savings was worth the few extra bucks. The bulb replacement cost me $4, which seemed a bit steep, but I felt generous today.

The original Volvo parts are made in France by Cibie. I bought a pair of Estonian replica lens from VLV World that are surprising good quality and are a perfect fit. I've heard there are some asian replicas that are poor quality but if these are the Estonian ones, you should get them replaced by the vendor.

240on280....Thanks for the mention of VLVWorld, as the site looks good for part purchases. I'm new to the forum, so this type of information is very much appreciated. My rear tail light lens is cracked and an attempt to caulk the crack was made by previous owner. Not sure I'm ready to pay $80 - $120 for that tail light lens, but this site seems to be fairly priced should I decide to replace.

You're welcome. If I remember correctly the Estonian parts are stamped "Alva" For the rear lights sometimes you can find good ones at junk yards if you happen to show up on the right day.
