Hi all,

I've had my 05 V50 2.0D for 4 weeks, I love the car, I've had 2 V40's in the past, the last being a 1.9D. So far a believe there is a marked improvement in the V50.

My only gripe so far is that I'm a little disappointed with the MPG the car is returning, so far I haven't been able to get more than 39MPG is this normal?

The car has coverered 80,000 miles and is due for a service at 83,000 will this make a difference?

My 1.9D V40 had covered 200,000 miles and was still returning upto to 50MPG.

Thanks

Gez

I have recently just purchased a V50 D5 2006 plate 70k miles full main dealer history i am also dissapointed with the fuel economy.
A lot of my driving is around town in quite heavy traffic situations.
I have averaged approx 23 mpg on a full tank i have taken the car into a local volvo dealers and they have checked the car over saying it has a clean bill of health and is running the latest software.
Prior to buyiing this car i ran a 2008 passat 2.0 litre tdi 170 bhp sport this would return 38 mpg in the same conditions and mid 40s on a run.
On a previous post i asked if any one knew the position of the ecu as was going to remap the car for better economy, this is now sorted as you have to take out the ecu for communication purposes.(no k line )i will report on this in a few weeks when results are known

BHP, 23mpg is pretty awful for a diesel. My 2006 V50 with 2.5 Turbo petrol engine, six speed manual and AWD averages about 24-25mpg in light city driving & 30mpg in the country. With just FWD this should be about 2mpg better. You must get stuck in a lot of slow moving traffic.

It would be interesting to see what mileage you get on a nice relaxing run in the country.

For those making a comparison across the pond remember a US gallon is only 0.823 of a UK gallon.

After I bought my V50 2.0D (MY2008) I did a long journey on a highway (700km=435miles) at a speed about 120 km/h (75 mph). The fuel economy was 6.4 l/100km (44 mpg).
My friend with VW Pasat 2.0d says his fuel economy when driving in city is about 8l/100km (35 mpg)
People say diesel's fuel economy improves after about 10 000 - 15 000 miles.

I to have been a little dissapointed with Fuel Economy (2.0d R-design -6000miles) - on the combined cycle - no city driving but A-roads and some long runs my trip computer says 38.3MPG and the average speed is 34.

In my previous Audi Diesel I used to get nearer 50mpg i am sure. I tend to get about 400miles on a full tank - used to get nearer 650 in my Audi but admittedly tank was bigger also..

I too be interested in your cpu remapping results.

I haven't seen my new 2.0D yet, but I'm told it hasn't reached 400 miles on a tankful yet. Mainly urban driving, but I hope it improves.
