I hope the issue is now finalised, and the problem really taken cared of.

When i sent the car in, over the past few weeks, over the problem of taking a longer time of cranking the engine, to start, they suspected either one of the two:-

1) Either the FUEL PUMP RELAY, or
2) DISTRIBUTOR CAP

Since I had already installed a 'new' fuel pump relay at the same workshop, they quickly concluded that the Distributor Cap needs replacing, together with the Distributor Rotor Arms.

Since I wasn't that confident, that they were at fault, I didn't pay anything and requested that I tried the new ones for a week. The workshop owner agreed. Afterall, he knew that I wasn't going anywhere anyway.

In any case, I took the original ones back home and gave them a good cleaning! The photos below were before the cleaning.

Unfortunately, the starting problems occured again. And to rub salt on the wound, my mother-in-law was also in the car. We were on the way back from shopping. :crying: Argh.

After a while (well actually about 2 hours 'stranded' in the parking lot of the mall, I accidentally left the ignition-key to point II (where all the indicator lights flashed) to a longer time (while I quietly prayed to God for help  ) to about 10 seconds longer than usual.

Aaaaaaandd... VOILA! ONE crank! And no sputterings. Smooth sound, as silk.

I called wifey's mobile (I told them to have lunch first at the food-court of the mall) and invited them back into the car.

After dropping them off at home, I stormed back into the workshop, and told them everything. And they put back the old distributor cap on, as it was obvious, they didn't troubleshoot it right!

Next, unsatisfied with the cure for this flu, I specifically asked them to check on the fuel pump. The reason why I ask them to check it is because, compared to another 850 (an 854 actually, not a T5 Wagon either, but should be accurate enough) the pump sound / noise when the ignition is pulled to position II was weak. So, I figured that maybe the pump was weak. THe mechanic seemed to agree as well.

But the mechanic said that it would be best to fix in a new fuel pressure regulator too! This, i agreed to, after rationalising that probably this is also the cause - since I had to wait fairly longer for the pump to fill the whole lines before the cranking could 'catch'.

But of course, upon the dismantling of the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator, i realised that there is NO WAY for me to know if it is bad, without dissecting them one by one (which is also impossible, to me as I have not the neccessary tools). :(

Hmmm....

But the BEST part is that, i havent paid for the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator either!
:haha:

If these works, then I'll have to fork the $$$ out lah. But if it doesn't, mannnn...

Hopefully you should be fine after the pump and regulator.
It would have been nice if you had a guage hooked up while the car wouldn't start so you could see if there was pressure or not.

Thanks for the GREAT advice, Tech.

But I fear for the works to plant the meters. So far that i've asked, they either staple (industrial rivet use, of course) to the front windscreen pillar, or use the double-sided tape and paste it on the dashboard.

Look ugly gitu. I'm a freak at that...

I understand that the benefits outweigh the costs... Hmmm, let's see lah...

Thanks, again Dude!

:)
