Hi Everyone...

I have a 96 2.0 850 - The abs light had been int for some time,

I have changed the front wheel sensors (following changing both cv boots) checked the wiring, and finally replaced the ecu....

Now i get.....

Ign On - abs light for 3 sec then off.... (good) :)

Start Engine - abs light on for 3 sec then off (still good) :)

Drive off..... ABS light on (bad) :(

But it's a one shot deal.... the abs light is on all the time - Unless i take the ecu out and fit it in my mates car then the light goes out (on his car) after you drive it....

Put it back in mine and back to square one....

the modulator pump is fine and all the wheel sensors & pedal sensor check out (1027 R on each wheel & <100 R to infinity on the pedal sensor... I even scoped the sensors to see if the signal was intermittant - nice square wave (rounded))

I only have elm327 scan so i cant read the codes ?-

Any Ideas ? I'm realing from the fact that my local mot station told me to take out the ABS lamp and then promply failed the car for no ABS !

Can i read the ABS codes with the Flash tool ?
has anyone susessfully used a vag com lead with Vol-fcr (fdti chipset USB)

Sorry for all the questions (esp on my first post) but i feel i must be overlooking somthing really fundimental.....

Thanks

Steve

I must agree with Greek.

Its probably the module. The reason i say probably is because, you DIDN'T check what the code was when the ABS light stays on, in the first place.

For all you know, the ABS sensor were NOT faulty to begin with. And the sensors are not easy to be damaged, you know. Which is why we receommend just cleaning the sensors first, without replacing it, for the first time.

Anyway, point is, READ THE CODES. For a V40, you will need to get the OBD2 reader for that. Up to you, on how to read the codes. Either buy a reader or scanner. Beg, borrow or steal. But read the codes first, then address what is written.

Cheers and Have fun.

ABS ECU...?
Meaning ABS Module...?

OK, then it leaves only 1 thing. The ABS Hydraulic Pump. But given the HUGE costs for that, i would recommend you check the ABS Module again. This time, not by swapping it with a friend or into a friend's car. But rather, to get your friend's KNOWN WORKING unit into YOUR car, and test it in YOUR car.

The above is, of course, to be carried out unless you plan to play safe and go to the dealer to properly read/scan the codes, and all.

Cheers.
