Germans have been known to deceive about pollution and mpg to EU bodies etc before, and if you know the mass, the rolling resistance and drag co-efficient of the vehicle, you can pretty soon guestimate the reliability of their figures. Not unlike our Firepower saga on the Oz stock exchange-a little intelligence would have shown it impossible. Sad that several top military people got into it-doesn't show any brains there. Oz govt got too involved in the fraud too. A $2- tablet in the fuel giving 25% better economy by improving vapourization. What utter rubbish! Even with low grade fuels in overseas countries-highly improbable. I'm not an engineer, but I can do the math and consider whether its possible.

you also have to understand how they run the tests. here in the US, the test consists of a 0-40 mph test, gradually, steady at 45 for 300 feet and slowly back down. those tests were conducted and found how people drove, in 1974. during the gas crisis. the test hasn't been updated, DUH!!!!! the same with horsepower figures in the US, they were measured at the crank and without any accessories. but now they list, usually, the hp realworld. usually. so it depends on whose head the hat is on before they pick the mpg. and, i will be first to admit, my impala gets 32 mpg. on a flatbed.
