Okay so 1 of my dash speakers went out in my car. After removing it, the thing appears to be totally custom to the car as in a molded plastic shape with the speaker inside it.

I scoured the internet and found no replacements, adapters or anything.

The part number on the speaer is 826.

I am next considering using a sawzall or something to carve out the original speaker and make room for a new one.

Anyone know of a place for replacements, adapter, or have experience cutting one of these up?

Any help or leads would be appreciated.

they are just plain hf units, aka tweeters. They do come out easily, but if you wish to replace them with some 3.5 inch coaxials then cutting is necessary. This is probably the best bet for replacement too.

I just did all 4 of my speakers........
I replaced originals with 6.5 Kenwoods from Best buy....

I had to use tin snips and cut larger holes on the door skins and gently modified with a Dremmel the door pannels larger, then I had to place the speakers behind the door pannels and custom cut and place the speakers on the door pannels with bolts............then put door pannels on with speaker attached all ready in them.

The way to get the stock speakers out is to use a large drill and gentally drill out "off" the rivits from stock units ( be careful not to go all the way through pannel ) then speakers fall out....

Then take off door pannels and cut pannels to fit speaker inside pannel....
then use tin snips to modify door skins where the magnet will fit......
This is only nessessary for the rear doors only..............Front doors only require door pannel to be modified Not the door skins.....Leave in the plastic rain gards in fronts..................

rear door cards dont need to be modified if you replace with a same size speaker eg a 5 3/4 inch unit.

the front door cards you can get a speaker adapter plate and wire kit that allows you to completely remove the stock paper coned unit and fit a direct replacement, i would imagine these are around $20us. i made mine out of mdf.

of course if you want to fit larger units in then further modding as obviously necessary

Same problem - I went with Crutchfield's Polk Tweeter (3 in I think). Without the any of the adapters that come with the speaker kit - this tweeter will fit. The sound is definitely different and took a little while to get use to it.

My problem is that the amplifier is probably gone. 15 amp in fuse spot 26 was blown and now the only sound is very low and cracked.

I had add the Volvo Graphic Equalizer way back and while the Volvo stock radio wasn't the best, the equalizer helped. The dilemna now is to replace the amplifier (if that is a problem) or go with aftermarket radio (and losing the amplifier and equalizer). I guess replacing the stock radio also losing the power antenna.

go witht he aftermarket head unit, and replace your speakers, will be far better quality. and you wont loose your power antenna either, aftermarket radio's come with a remote wire for that exact purpose ... or turning on 5 amps like mine does lol
