I just bought an used volvo 850 car with sc-811 premium sound system and it was locked I do i reset it back to factory settings

Should post in the electronics forum. However, look in your owners manual papers and see if you can find a credit card sized card with 4 numbers on it. If not there, then pull the radio out (release the tabs on the bottom left and right by pushing them in with a key) and see if the numbers are written on top of the radio. If neither place has it there then you can call the dealership with the VIN for the car and they can give it to you. Some dealerships will make you bring the car in to ensure that you actually own the car.

turn the key to pos II, all the lights will come on, but not the engine. leave it like that for two hours. sometimes less, mine took an hour and 12 minutes. when that happens, enter the 4 digit number, like jks2 posted, it will release the lock on the stereo head unit.
