Gas in my area currently is about $3.70/gal. I drove by a station yesterday that was advertising E85 for $2.99/gal. I've seen signs on the pumps at most stations that say "may contain up to 10% ethanol", which I assume is the special "summer blend" I always hear about around Memorial Day as a way to explain why the price is going up.

So, my questions....

What's the difference between E85, the mysterious "summer blend", and the regular stuff we use in the winter?

Since GM has been touting cars specifically designed to run on E85, I'm assuming it's not something you can run any vehicle on. Or maybe can, but shouldn't?

Bottom line, can I save 70 cents a gallon and put this stuff in my car, or is that asking for trouble?

e85 is an ethanol blend. there are two camps on this one, i find that it doesn't like certain cars. on my impala, it just won't make the same power, the same with the R and the mrs mercedes. the camaro and the hotrod's kinda like it. just some timing factors and a carb change and it will work. from what i have read, if you are running an older, pre-2000, electronic fuel injection, you will run into problems in stop and go traffic. that is all that i know about the "problems". on my impala, i have to run it real rich for it to keep the power levels up. sorry rosso
