92 volvo 240 wagon brake lights do not work. Switch is good bulbs are good the bulb out light is on. Could it be the bulb failure sensor, can you test it? Or something else? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Just went through the same problem. The bulb warning sensor is about 150 bucks at the dealer, or you can just bypass it.(I later found used ones on ebay for 15 bucks) I actually wrote down color of wires and what the come from/go to if you are interested. Of course, if you loose a light, you won't know until someone tells you...........This will allow you to use a simple 12 volt tester(a light bulb tester). Also, you can tell right away if it's cooked good by smelling it. Mine was crispy in the inside, and smelled horrible.............

Thanks for the info took mine apart yesterday smells fine. The bypass sounds fine to me if you would give me the info. I think that the blue/red wire comes from the switch and further investigation tells me that the two yellow wires nexed in sequence clockwise are the feeds for the brakelights. The bypass info would be helpful.

OK, heres what I have:

Thick Gray to thick blue wires(one to two)............................Headlights

White to red(one to one)..........................................................Turn signal

Grey to Brown/White(one to one).............................................Turn Signal

Blue/red to yellow, yellow/grey, brown/black(one to three)..........3 brake lights

Hope this helps. I didn't rip my plug off, but found some suitable pins at radioshack, and jumpered that way in case I decide to pull one at a yard

HAVE FUN

Does the whole dash board need to be removed to access the sensor?

No. If you look up (under) the dash you'll see it. They are expensive new so I would replace it with a cheap used one.

jpj, remove the fiber panel above the driver's legs. The BFWS should be to the left of the steering column. Fat, round, red one.
