On my radiator, on the passenger side(us model), toward the rear, on the top, there is what appears to be a temp sensor. Mine has 2 prongs hanging out of it like there should be some sort of ellectrical connection attached to it, however it is not connected. Anyone know where this should be hooked up(if at all)?

Oh yea, 1992 Volvo 240 wagon automatic with 230,000 glorious miles.........

It's a thermal switch which is normally used to activate an electrical fan for engine cooling. Or an auxiliary fan in front of the A/C condenser.

Does your car have a fan clutch? (Fan attached to the water pump)

Yes, the fan is belt driven. Does this mean no worries for me?

OK, then you don't need another fan. Some people use that thermal switch for a second fan.

strange that it would be there. Why not just install a plug or something???? I wonder If I ever had a different setup there before. Ive had the car for 9 years, and the only time the temp went above halfway was in the desert in summer going up a huge hill at noon. I had to turn on the heater to cool it down. Extra cooling would have been handy..................

The radiator probably came out of a 740 or a 240 with the 2nd fan - I wouldn't worry about it.

What do you know????

I have a second fan!!!!

Trying to trace the wires is the tricky part though. I would assume the wires would go right over to that switch, but they head off toward the drivers side. I wonder if it was bypassed on purpose or just forgotten. Anybody want to look at thier car and tell me which direction that wire is coming from(off the thermal switch)????
