Hi,

The headlights are on dipped beam constantly when the switch is in the off position, most others I have seen are running with just the side lights on. I have been told a lot of Volvo`s have lights on all the time (this is my first Volvo) but not dipped beam surely? Is it because its an old car (1997)?

Also, whilst I am on.. Any Volvo salvage yards around Stafford/Midlands anyone know of??

Thanks

They are on dipped full beam by default, turn switch to centre position [side lights] for daylight driving [thats what you are seeing from other volvo drivers].
Safety feature from Swedish [saab do it as well] where they can have up to 6months on darkness.

The headlights are always on by default, later cars had the option to turn them off but that was 99 onwards cars. Sadly your only option to turn them off is by cutting a wire behind the switch or turn the lights to side lights as has been said. Personally I always leave DRLs on on my cars as they are a proven safety feature. It becomes law for all EU cars to have DRLs in a couple of years anyway. Both our Audi and BMW came equiped with them so its not just the Swedish built cars anymore.
