Hello C70 lovers,
My Rotors are running out, or ran out already. I am looking for replacements. I consider myself an agressive driver sometimes, so i need something for these moments when i am agressive. I was looking for Brembo rotors, but i didn't really find 302mm for both front and rear. I wanted the bigger rotors because they have larger contact area; therefore, more stopping power. i could only 302mm front rotors from Brembo. I was looking at Zemmermann, and differant companies. I want something good, i dont mind paying a bit more but not alot.
I heard alot of people talking about the Greenstuff Pads, since i need to change them with the rotors. I was looking for Ceramic, though. what do you guys think? any recommendations?

Depends on your pocket book. BIG brake kits are available, but they do not come cheap. Larger 302mm front rotors require a different caliper bracket available at any Volvo dealership or FCP Groton, perhaps they are on your car already. Rears stay the same size. I personally am gonna go with OEM pads and rotors(302mm fronts) due to the fact that I hate brake noise. The brake dust on my wheels I can handle.

I dont want to go for a full kit. Just something thats going to fit on the OEM fit. just rotors and pads no calipers. I want good rotors and pads. i am looking for something around $300. i can get all regular parts with pads for $210 from the shop. $300 Online i think will get something amazing. So what you mean is that the rear rotors only come 295mm? there are never 302mm? just the front ones that come big?

Also, when i go with Brembo, do i get just blank Brembo rotors? or try to go with slotted or drilled? I honestly hear alot of people talk about drilled being bad and crack and that sort of stuff. But if Brembo does drilled, would they crack? and if they do, they wouldnt crack if going below 140mph, right?

If you keep your stock calipers there are only 2 rotor sizes available, 280 and 302. The rear stock comes in only the single size. Cross drilled/slotted, slotted, and drilled rotors can be used, but have both benefits and drawbacks. Drilling the rotor to promote better cooling can lead to cracking at the drill points. These were intended for race applications, and not daily driving. Slotted channel dust from the rotor surface promoting better pad to rotor contact. I do not see the logic in the 140mph connection with cracking.
There are plenty of articles on how and why brakes work that make for some very informative reading. If you are happy with your brakes then just replace them with new parts. If you are unhappy then upgrade the rotors and pads that are more performance oriented, but bare in mind there is always going to be a trade off, eg. additional noise, faster wear of pads and rotors, etc...

AMAZING brakes are gonna be around 3k and not 300.

I have a full set of the Powerslot rotors and compatable pads from IPD.
The full replacment kits ( rotors, pads, anti squeal lube) fit right in to the price range your looking at. So far they have been on the car about 2 yrs., they work great. They are quiet, the metallic pads produce less dust, two additional things I personally like are that they are satin plated and will look good behind your open spoke wheels and the slots provide a visual indicator of when the rotors are worn out (slots gone - rotors done).

I think someone else mentioned, EST, IPD, Viva Performance would all have slotted rotors in stock sizes and performance pads.

They may wear faster, but noise isn't an issue if the pads are prooerly greased.

Ok, i Bought Brembo rotors and Akibono Euro pads. I have the HPT 17" C70. So i figured the 16" rotors should fit in front. but thats not what the mechanic says. he said they fit but the the caliper doesnt reach. it needs some other bracket or something like that. What do you guys think? to be honest, i dont trust him. he might just didnt feel like trying. did anyone experience something like this before? any help?

P.S. i called the dealer and they said the 16" (302mm) doesnt fit. only the 15" fits (280mm).
Thanx guys for your help

I had the same problem with my 04.

My car has 17 inch BBS Propus wheels and when I went to do the brake job I bought 302mm rotors for the front.

Removed the wheels to do the job and the damn car had 280mm rotors!

Go figure.

I had to get new caliper brackets to put the bigger rotors on.

You can get these from FCP Groton and it is worth it to get them and install the 302's.

I used EBC slotted and dimpled rotors with Akebono Euro pads and have fantastic results.

The 302's should have come with this vehicle stock.

This is the second C70 I've owned with 17 wheels that is an HPT that came with the smaller rotors instead of the 302mm ones.

Guess Volvo just slaps whatever on the car when building them. Some with 302 and some with 280.

Definitely get the brackets and put the bigger rotors on. They do make a difference. Make sure you have good tires too. Big brakes are not worth a damn without the tires.
