I have the sedan version of a '95 850.
Since I've had it, the lock on the trunk occasionally caught while I was trying to lock or unlock it.
(( Usually when turning the key left ))
Now it's finally caught fast, and I can't get it back to the vertical position.
I managed to remove the key, but the lock is stuck like this: \
Now the trunk won't open at all.
I've tried using the power locks to see if they could fix it, but no luck.
Any ideas?
I'll probably be having it looked at soon, but was wondering if there's any way I could do it myself...

[[ I can provide pics / more info if asked, but I'm not up on car lingo so please be specific ]]

Try putting some powdered graphite in the lock mechanism. It is a lubricant and that might loosen things up.

the lock mech is broken.. mine broke months ago. ok, first try the master lock, try unlocking the trunk with the door locks, if your trunk lock was preset for universal entry (with all doors unlocked) then you should beable to get in. But, yes always a but, the rod link is brittle by now, if you turned the key too far you finnished it. the dealer or your local salvage yard will posibly have a mech. around 45.00 used, no telling new. if you want access to the trunk in the mean while, let your seats down in the rear, crawl into the trunk, on the back wall of the trunk (rear) above the lock striker you will see the trim liner, pull the liner out of the way. you will see the lock then, use a flat head to release the lock, its hard to explain the area to push, but if you can see it use the key on the outside and move the key, do this with a partner, you will figure it out. one you do get that trunk lid open, use your key again to view the movement, if you have to remove the lock mech, and by hand reset the lock to work in the position that it will allow you to open the trunk while the rest of the doors are unlocked, when you lock the doors, the trunk will lock too. DONT USE THE LOCK TILL YOU GET A REPLACEMENT.
the hanes manual is the best mystery solver if you have nothing else.
please post your outcome, if you need further more detailed info, i will be glad to take pics and step it out for you.
keep us posted, and :00000732:

Well, I feel silly now.
I went out to see what the lock looked like from the inside, but decided to take another shot from the outside, first.
All it took was some more key-wiggling.
Which I had done plenty of, but I finally got it to release.
So nothing was really broken, just a bit stuck.

I'll probably get my hands on some graphite, though, in case it happens again.

Thanks for the support, guys.

I can vouch for the powdered graphite.

BUT, if the darned thing is ALREADY STUCK DEAD, there is very little you can do except to access it from the passenger seats and replace the mechanism.

The powdered graphite is good if your locking mechanisms are STARTING to get stuck.

Its still broken. the tab is streched out. thats why it allowed movement that far. you just popped it back ito place, the first time you turn it too far you will post again. now that you have the trunk open its a great time to check out the lock mech.
im only telling you this because i had the same problem, but i deleted my rear key access in the end.
see your repost soon......

Hmm? I don't think I forced it past its usual rotation area.
I'm usually gentle with that sort of thing, even when it sticks...
How do you mean it went too far?
(( How far is too far? This is my first car... bit clueless on some stuff... ))

...I'm still hoping for the sticking theory, honestly. ._.;

Oh, and the lock has worked nicely and easily so far.

it will work if you dont turn it too far.
ok, when you turn the key and the locks pop up, you should beable to pull the key out. then say you close the trunk, and lock your doors from the central lock on the drivers door. Later you forget you left the rear key in the unlock position, but you attempt to unlock it again, thats too far. the links on the rod will get streched out over the years causing the link to break and jamming the key lock.
tell you what, set the key in the rear like this:
-start with all doors locked
-go to the rear lock, trunk, unlock in the direction that it unlocks all doors, trunk, and gas door
-relock the doors via the main lock on drivers door.
-stop useing the trunk lock as often.
when you use the main lock on the door, it will fully control the trunk lock now, securing the trunk when you secure the doors. as long as you dont set the isolation feature (thats what its called) on the trunk.
that lock was made like that to independently lock the trunk if you was to want to leave the car unlocked at the same time.
your lucky now, keep an eye on it!
