Hi everyone, newby here.

Just removed a faulty alternator from my 1989 740 estate.

Wired up the replacement alternator in what I believe to be the same configuration as the one that came out and replaced belts. Reattached earth lead to battery and sat in car ready to give it a test.

But before I could even put the key in the ignition I noticed that the battery warning light was glowing brightly. Removed earth lead from battery, checked connections, scratched my head and now I'm looking for help.

Could anybody do me a description or diagram of how the wiring should be?
