I have a 2002 without turbo and just recently received a message that the alarm system needs servicing. Decided yesterday to see if the alarm was working and found out that the with the door lock and alarm supposedly on when I opened a door the lights would flash but the alarm would not sound. Tried to find where the siren was but to no avail. Has anyone seen this one before?

Hi
My apologizes for my english
I've the same problem
the only difference is before the fault i've heard a "bang" under the front right wheel

The siren have a serious fault (the ni-mh internal battery release liquid on the printed board, cause a short and the "explosion" internal the siren with the break of the box)
I've just purchase the spare part.
it is locate near the glass water bottle under the cover over the front right wheel)
it is fix with a special screw (is necessary to use the drill to remove)
the siren can't be repair so is necessary change the entire components (is a bosch production)
on the spare part there is also the instruction to substitute the siren with the dismount instruction and all the components (fuse, rivet, screw)
There is also the indication is necessary to use the vadis to reprogram the unit, but if the fautl is only the siren the change working without problem
the change take approx 2 hours (from dismount to remount)
the spare part cost (in italy) about 150 euro

I hope this can help you

Best regards
Bruno

I have the exact same problem on my R.

It was like that when I bought it, so I just put up with the warning message.

I'll start poking around as per the above post...

If you have any success, please let me know how you make out!!

the only solution is to replace the siren
the volvo p.n is 9499758
Inside there is the siren and a new shim.is not necessary to replace this component (the kit is the basic burglary alarm)

i copy the instruction about siren positioning
------
3 carry out the following on the right-hand side on the car
- Raise the car
- turn the wheels to the left
Carefully drill out the 5 blind rivet from the wing linear at the front edge of the wheel arch
- Remove the nuts from the wing liner: fold down the wing liner

The siren is over the glass water box, inside a silver metal support

After the install, before close the wing , try the system
the error message will be clear automatically

I hope this can help you

Best regards

Bruno

see, i was under the impression that the disc shaped item on the firewall was the alarm siren. must have been the first gen v70's. oh well, cool.
