OK, I have a 1996 850 turbo that is surging and getting a code of p103. The code says "MAF sensor input high". I have replaced the MAF sensor but still have the same problem. Today it is just stalling out after a couple min.

you likely have realized that the MAF didn't fail. something else is the problem...

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/tech/service/8...es-NonTurbo.pdf

read and clear all your codes. the codes that reappear can help lead you to the problem. i dont know from turbos unfortunately... have you been taking care of all the normal tune-up stuff a twelve year old car needs? filters, plugs, wires, rotor, cap, fluids, plugs, flame trap/PCV?vacuum cleaning, etc...?

my 850 stalled a few times and didn't want to start again. it was the coil.

hopefully some of the turbo guys will type in soon.

good luck!

You've replaced the MAF sensor, and it is STILL surging? Well, at least the lambda has not returned, right?

Meaning it could be 2 different things.

Your gearbox okay?

+1 to TGM as this is the general area I would be having a good hard look at.

To the best of my limited knowledge, a turbo can't "surge" because it reacts (i.e. spins) to the pressure of the exhaust gas. The only thing that I could think of would be something like a sticky or worn out turbo spindle bearing but, because of the tremendous centrifugal forces at work in a turbo, I wouldn't expect a turbo to last very long if something like that did happen.

Trust what the hairy Greek Man said about fuel supply (and psssstt - don't overlook the innocuous fuel relay).
