just bought a 1995 gtl 850, when i got it i had a problem with the mas air flow sensor, there was white smoke coming out of the exaughst and it made my car reek of gas so i changed it and the white smoke stopped. the next day i brought it to aamco to have a oil leak checked out. turns out it was some oil sensor on the block it had broken loose and oil was coming out pretty decently, they got a new one and fixed that problem. when i went to pick it up i was told that they went to start it up and the car wouldnt turn on. and that there was no spark at the plugs, they diagnosted it and told me it was my ignition coil and plug wires.

now that i ve sunk 600 bucks into it it still wont start. im trying not to get angry with the techs there, they ve gone through and deturmined it s not the ignition, plugs, distributor, theres just no spark

any ideas?

i have heard about several coil deaths/failures for 850's that have left the owner and mechanic stumped for a day or two.

i recommend you swap or replace the coil and check fuel pressure at the injector rail too. fuel pump failure is not uncomon at this age.

its a good idea to replace the plugs/wires/rotor and cap at the same time too.

good luck!

cam sensor?.. expensive part. i would try the cheap ones first?... but i usually try a used/swapped part first (I'm a cheapskate)

but... you should check your car for trouble codes.

this link can help you get the codes from your 850. http://www.troublecodes.net/Volvo/

write them all down and check in here or look them up at this link
http://www.actron.com/code_lookup.php

i would recommend that you try to find a local independant volvo shop, not a chain/franchise shop.

there is a relay for the fuel pump too.

The ECU?
Wow, that would probably be the last in my list to look at.

Congrats.

Cheers.

It is most unusual for an ECM to suddenly just up and pack it in for no apparent reason.

I suspect the garage has inadvertently caused a voltage spike by shorting something out while they were checking out your vehicle. Doing this can easily damage the ECU and the annoying part is, it is impossible to prove this might have happened.

Probably a not-so-subtle piece of self-promotion and has most likely been listed on other forums where Volvos are involved.

However, I did have a quick peek at this particular sight and found it somewhat disappointing because it doesn't many things of interest on offer.
