I'm giving thought to selling my 960 wagon to buy a 200 series wagon. I like the big six power but I don't need it. I need something reliable. The 960 hasn't been unrelible but has alot of gadgets I don't care about and don't want to fix when they require it. The parts havn't been out of reach but all those little things add up and it seems to reoccur somewhat soooo I stared thinking that mabe a 200 series would be more reliable. I want to know what some of you more experienced owners and drivers think.

I believe minor problem issues have a lot to do with both the model and more specifically - year of manufacture. I have owned both a 1976 760 series sedan (European specs) and 1996 960 series (U.S. specs) wagon and sedan. In just two years, I burned out two turbos with the 760 (aggressive commuter driving in Naples, Italy  ), but had very few other problems with the car. Currently my 960 wagon, purchased second hand, has 153,000 miles and my sedan, purchased new, sits at just 83,000 miles. Both 1996 960s have really been trouble free.

I find that the longer into the model run, the more modifications and refinements are incorporated targeting the weaker links in the vehicle and finally producing a car that gives great service. The best example I can think of is the Corvair. From Ralph Naders attack to its last year of production, it became one of the sportiest and best engineered compact cars on the road.

You might want to take a more serious look at a 1996 or 1997 960 before considering shifting to a 200 series.
