I dropped my original remote to my 2001 S40 enough times and the case cracked and broke so that it won't stay on my key ring. The remote still works fine. Is is possible to buy a replacement or find a used remote on ebay and then just take the case off that one and put it on mine? If I can do that, how do you take apart the case?

Hi roe 1352

I had a similar problem with a vehicle of another make and was able to drill a small hold through the remote case in the opposite corner to the one that was broken.

I note that with the S40 remote it may be possible to drill a small hole near to the opposite corner to allow a thin key ring to pass through, then attach that to the keys.

Anyone else know if you can buy a used one and just transfer the case over?

Drilling a hole wouldn't work. The remote is pretty banged up from years of dropping it and it would just be a matter of time before it broke again.
