hi all,need some serious help from you experts out there,i have owned an s40 1.8i gdi se 1834cc 2001 y reg for about 4 months,at first it was just holding back and hesitating/missing every now and then,this has gradually got worse and now it wont rev past 4000 rpm,ive had the engine management light come on 3 times in the last few weeks,took it to a volvo dealer to diagnose what was happening and they told me my battery was faulty and my speedo didnt work,the speedo works fine and ive never had a problem with the battery,so it cost me £30 to tell me rubbish,ive cleaned the throttle body,cleaned the plugs,changed the fuel filter and still it wont pull,its worse under load ie going uphill or flooring it and seems to be worse the warmer the weather is,since cleaning the throttle body the tickover is higher 1500 rpm,sat at 60mph you would not know there was a fault untill you came to an incline then it will just start spluttering and missing/holding back,the cat sometimes smells after it has been driven,its done 100,000 miles but still sounds and runs sweet untill you try and accelerate then it just pops and coughs,I have also tried blasting down the motorway... as soon as you hit an incline the car starts to hold back and splutter, it refuses to go past 4000 rpm almost as though there is a rev limiter fitted!..Another problem I have is the trip meter suddenly decides I am only getting 11.1 mpg even though I am definately still getting around 35 mpg average.
