"The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety based its findings on a study of four years' worth of accidents in which drivers were killed. The crashes occurred between 1989 and 1993 and involved 1988 through 1992 vehicles.

The group said no drivers of '88 through '92 Volvo 240s were killed during those years, so its death rate was the lowest.

That is good news. It is one of the main reasons for buying the 240. It could also be because drivers of 240's don't generally drive crazy.

For instance, the accident and death rate with Ford Mustangs were probably high. Is it because the car is not as safe or is it the drivers who get themselves into a bad situation? Perhaps a bit of both.

I've seen some pretty dumb volvo drivers dish out hell to other road users over the years, we're relatively safe I'll agree, but is it just us safely viewing the carnages we cause? As a motorcyclist, I'm always aware of V's, and keep clear of them, because their drivers are such dangerous idiots. I do my very best not to be like them.

Do you mean like driving on the left side of the road? Or is it the right side? Damn I can't remember - I'll drive down BOTH SIDES!!!!

And yes it depends on the driver, but I can't imagine Grandma who can barely see out of ONE eye driving a Volvo is much safer than a 18 year old in a Mustang ;)

 I'm a grampa, and I use both eyes. I'd bet that during the the time of this survey, most volvo drivers were probably more conservative. ( not speaking politically  .)
Times have changed, but when I was 18, most 18 year olds drove like it was a competition, Mustang or whatever.
