Soooo...two days ago I bought the car I've wanted since I was 12. It's a 1996 850 T5 Wagon in black. I wanted a manual but I decided against being picky. Anyway, there it is on my avitar.

Anyway, today I was out driving around and doing some photo work and hit a larger than expected parking barrier :(. The shield under the front valance and radiator got ripped off...partially. I drove down GW Parkway after this (I didn't realize it was dragging until it was too late) but there was no where to stop so I continued dragging it. Unfortunately I now need a new one, and don't know what the shield is called or where I can get one...the old one is destroyed to the point it can't go back on.

*whew* found it...I'm happy enough with the Auto...it appears that the odometer fix (the odometer stopped turning today) is simple as well?

they had a nice photo guide on their site (fcp groton). It didn't look like it'd take too long. My car is going in for the recall on Wednesday and I'm having them dye test the AC since the AC isn't working. What is the most common component to fail on the AC which would cause it to leak?

usually the compressor. were the a/c lights flashing on the dash? if so, read the codes. there is a trick with the compressor using the little plastic tabs from a bread package that supposedly works. fortunately my a/c still works, thankgod, so i haven't tried to yet. good luck and keep us posted.

Yes. It worked one day, and then the next day, I turned on the compressor and the AC and Recirc lights on the heat control panel were flashing...at the same time the ABS and TRACS light came on.

get to autozone, have them read the codes, they'll do it free. if poss, invest in getting a code reader, not a scanner, you want to be able to erase the codes. your abs/trac light is just that, you need a new module. pretty much all the 850's i've seen or heard about have had the same problem. there are a couple of who will rebuild them for you, cost around $150 with shipping. two-three day turnaround. you'll need an E5 socket to get the module out, don't try it with any other socket, it'll just mess up the screws. not like i would have done something like that. oh, never, not me. anyway, get a haynes manual, great to have something to reference when you need some help right away.

Firstly, CONGRATS on your PURCHASE!!!

I can imagine you're on Cloud 9 now, eh?
Nothing beat the feeling of buying a car. HEHE.
Used or New. No difference.
:)

OK, secondly, are you talking about the splash-guard?

Looks like Abang Harry the GreekMason is taking good care of you.
Cheers!

hey piece, you need those little plastic flat ties that hold the bread closed, not the twist ties the flat ones, you use those as shims on the compressor. it doesn't last long, usually just for the summer, but hey, it's cheaper than getting a new compressor and you get to eat a crap load of sandwiches to keep getting those plastic ties  mmmm-mmmmmmmm ham and cheese lettuce and tomato with mayo. and a glass of milk. maybe a cookie or two  if you need, i'll post the thread for you piece.
