About 2 months ago it started hesitating and stalling when cold, After it warmed up it would idle ok but hesitate when accelerating. Yesterday, it started but would not stay running unless you gave it some throttle continuously. Needless to say it makes for a challenging drive.

Any ideas as to what might cause this? I have been through many pages of postings and no one seems to have my exact symptoms.

Thanks

No, I don't have to pump it to get it to start but once it starts the throttle must be engaed to keep it running

a few things. one do you hear the fuel pump running? stupid question, but is it running steady? position 2 (dash lights on) if you hear it, get a fuel relay from a junked 850, new they run around $60+. also, have you run out of gas? if so, there might be a code stored in the ecu, have the codes read and see if anything pops up. try the easy ones first, then we go for the harder stuff.

Fuel pump is running and I've never run it out of gas. Mechanic says he found a hole in one of the hoses that can only be purchased from the dealer for $165. Lucky me. Currently, it will not idle - it immediately shuts down unless I apply the gas. It also even before this performed poorly.
Id sure like to have my Legend back oh well.

which hose is your mech talking about? find out what he needs and try fcpgroton.com or, get a junked one until you get the money for a new one. and your legend, around now, should be close to 20 yeara old and the parts for it will be just as expensive. take care of the 850 now and keep up the maintenance and she'll last for 300 k miles.

This may sound crazy. Please check all vacuum hoses that run from manifold to fuel system and suggest inspecting fuel filter. They tend to clog up after 100K + miles

Thanks to everyone for your assistance. The primary problem was with the air intake hose, it had a big hole in it. It still doesn't have a lot of power but it's not hesitating anymore and it is idling just fine.

You may want to work on your STage One to get it back to its glory days.

bears time zone is soooo far ahead of ours that he actually thought that you had done the stage zero already  get a good quality tune-up done. and i mean everything, hoses, plugs, wires, flametrap, etc. once that is done, everything from there on up will be stage 1, 2, 3, etc. but at least you'll know your baseline power abilities with a stage zero.
