I should be ordering a brand new interior trim kit shortly as my current one's got too many scratches.

I think I'll give the old scratched trim a shot at decal art. Since I'm about to throw it away, what have I got to loose?

Here's how I picture doing it:
1. Scotchbrite
2. Couple of base coat of plastic paint
3. Apply cool decal
4. Couple coats of clear coat.

I've never tried anything like this... anybody have tips or experience in this???

well, mabey not a volvo center stack, but thounsands of abs plastic parts, in paint and fiberglass.
treat it like any other paint piece. Prep is everything, you mentioned srcatches, smooth them out. use your grits, 100 to 120 and up. Your idea sounds good, but take it a step further, go get a testors air-brush kit. pic yourself out a couple nice colors to match the car. Use a box flap or anything you want to PRACTICE on. Let your mind go with it, you will then see your design. Do your own thing, decals are nice but not original, plus it will be rough to the touch, you will see the seamline in the design and the clear coat, you always clear coat when you paint ANYTHING.
clean, prep, prime,prep more, prime for level, wetsand with 1000 grit, paint your base coat. Testor model paints work well if you cant get custom made paints with access to air. Testor model master makes nice strong paints for plastics, and with the airbrush kit, you can mix your colors. Trust me. :grin:
The airbrush technique will look awsome, it will be one-off.
