Yesterday was a Volvo-Nightmare! The folks who bought (and have already paid for) my 2000 C70 came to pick it up - and when I asked them if they wanted the top down for the drive home, the tonneau cover stuck in the straight-up position. The top will go all the way down and almost all the way up but it will not latch.

So. Obviously we can't get into the trunk for the manual tools. I live almost 40 miles from the nearest Volvo dealer and although I'm pretty handy, I'm not a mechanic.
My son disconnected the battery to see if the computer would reset and will try the top again tonight. In the event it doesn't work . . .

1. How complicated is it to remove the tonnneau cover? Can anyone tell us how to do it? (My son is a mechanic but has no experience with Volvos)

2. Is it even possible to tow the car in its present state? Would it have to go on a flatbed?

I am at my wits end and completely embarassed. Please: if there is any advice out there I would so appreciate it!

Hi

Sounds like your having fun , why can you not get in the trunk, it should still open on the key whether the top is stuck or not , then you can wind it fully down or up with the two keys they give you (hope you,ve still got them)

regards

Tom

Here's my situation.

I have an 2002 C70. This past wk-end, I found that the back window came unsealed from the "cloth" top. I took the car in to an upholstery/glass repair shop recommended by my volvo mechanic whom I totally trust. The quote for a new top was $2107 ( $1467 new top, $520 Labor, $120 "straps"- not certain what the latter is).

I called another shop that is located in my neighborhood who says he's been in business since 1985. This guy told me he could change the top for $1400 total, new top and labor. !!??!! Big difference in quotes. Of course I'm always up for saving money however I do want the replacement to be done right.

I need help! Does anyone have comments about this? Perhaps questions I should ask. Are there different grades of after market tops that I should look for? (btw, they are both "after market tops")

Then the thought occured to me, maybe I can shop for a top myself. Are there distrubutors that make tops available to the public? If so, any recommendations?

Lastly, is there any value or interest in the old top once it's removed? i.e. resale

Any and all other comments pertaining to this that I may not have thought of are very welcome!

Joan
