Sorry for my broken english and I just want to share my experience that may help you.

My volvo 850 had two experience that no brake while car running.
The first is the brake pedel is become very smooth and amost lost brake while running on highway. I stop the car and wait for 10 minutes, brake is recovered and evreything is ok. I suppose the brake fluid need to be replaced and I replaced it later.

Again, I drive my car on the urban road and found the pedel become very very hard to press. The brake is still functional but I need to push it very hard to make it work. I suppose the vaccuum power booster of brake system is fail. I stop the car for 10 minutes again, the brake system again recovered.

It's very strange, if the booster is fail or leaking air, it should not 'recover' after few minutes.

An expert found the cause is the flatten vaccuum pipe from engine to booster. It is a hard plastic pipe under from the engine close to idle motor, through the beneath of air filter box to booster (of firewall).

The plastic pipe is totally flatten, so the power booster does not have enough vaccuum while pipe is blocked.

I suggest all of you can check this pipe while you found the brake system is not function well.....

again thanks all of you tolerate my broken english & I am not native english speaker.... If anyone need me to show more detail picture please let me know...

Thanks for the advice - it could save a person's life.

Don't worry about your English, your post was perfectly understandable (it made a lot more sense than some of the native English speaking members do on this forum   )

Keep on contributing - good luck!

Which was WHY i changed mine already (refer to the garage section). I even used a steel-braided hose for this purpose.

In anycase, PICTURES are always welcome. please just upload them here.
:)

The brake-booster hose is made of rubber and as such, needs to be attended to, every 5 years or so. And because of the location of the booster hose, very few people actually looks at it, everytime they pop the hood.
